Steve Tobio is a resident of Waltham, living with his wife, Rachael, and their three daughters, Skyla, Ivy and Maya. He works as VP of Product in the FinTech space for Dynamo Software, based in Watertown.
Steve’s hockey journey includes an exceptional collegiate career as a defenseman for the Bentley Falcons during the program’s inaugural transition to Division I in the MAAC Hockey League (now Atlantic Hockey). He quickly established himself as one of the top blue liners in college hockey, scoring 120 career points (35 goals, 85 assists) in 120 career games—still ranking 1st among defensemen and 11th overall in program history. He led the team in scoring as both a junior and senior (2001: 5-20-25; 2002: 14-19-33), a remarkable feat for a defenseman.
His accolades include being twice honored as MAAC Defensive Player of the Year (co-winner in 2000, winner in 2002) and earning All-MAAC honors three times, including First Team selections in 2000 and 2002. A two-year captain, Steve Tobio still owns Bentley’s Division I record for goals in a season (14) and career goals (26) by a defenseman and was inducted into the Bentley Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.
For the past four years, Steve has focused on coaching young players within Waltham Youth Hockey, helping athletes build strong fundamentals, confidence, and a love for the game. Steve is excited to coach the Jr. Falcons U10 Girls team for the 2026–27 season and is committed to creating a positive, team-first environment where players feel supported, work hard, and have fun.
